3D Printing Webinar & Virtual Event Roundup, June 5, 2020

In this week’s webinar and virtual event roundup, we’ve got three webinars to share with you, one of which has already taken place but can be viewed by interested parties now, and a virtual event co-hosted by two big names in the industry that’s coming later in the month.

Opportunities for Printed & Flexible Electronics Virtual Conference

Late last month, IDTechEx hosted a virtual conference, entitled “Opportunities for Printed & Flexible Electronics.” While this event has already been broadcast, that doesn’t mean you can’t still listen to it: the conference, including its Q&A session at the end, was recorded for your viewing pleasure. After a welcome and introduction by IDTechEx CEO Raghu Das, the agenda consisted of several interesting topics, including “High & Lows of Printed Electronics From an End User Perspective” by Rafael Michalczuk from Swarovski and “Scalable 3D Printed Electronics – “Fully Additive to High Volume Manufacture” by Dr. Martin Hedges with Neotech AMT GmbH. After the Q&A, Das discussed the growth opportunities for printed and flexible electronics during COVID-19.

“Learn how end-users such as Coca-Cola, Electrolux and Swarovski are progressing printed electronics in their business. Hear the latest developments from key suppliers Neotech AMT (manufacturing), Ynvisible (devices) and Roartis (materials).”

SOLIDWORKS PDM Webinar

Product data and intellectual property (IP) are valuable assets for product development organizations, and it’s important to protect them, but also ensure that the right people are able to access the information. Product data management (PDM) can help solve these challenges, and the SOLIDWORKS PDM system makes it easy for teams to do both: protect important IP while also allowing for seamless collaboration between stakeholders and other departments. On Tuesday, June 9th, at 11 AM ET, Dassault Systèmes will be holding a short, 22-minute webinar about the PDM system.

“In this webinar, we will show you how SOLIDWORKS PDM can help you:

  • Go back in time and see who, why and how your files have changed

  • Use search capabilities beyond just your file name

  • Prevent inadvertent deletion or work overwrite

  • Use one ecosystem to store and manage your files

  • Ensure that manufacturing is working with files that have been approved by engineering, eliminating costly mistakes”

ASTM Design for Additive Manufacturing Webinar

Standards organization ASTM International is hosting a two-part virtual training series on Design for Additive Manufacturing, or DfAM, which will provide attendees with an overview of the various aspects of AM design concepts. The first session, from 10-11:30 AM ET on June 9th, will be taught by Professor David W. Rosen, School of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Research Director of the Digital Manufacturing and Design Centre at the Singapore University of Technology & Design, and will introduce attendees to design validation and the ASTM F42 standards for design. At the same time on June 23rd, Dr. Eujn Pei, the Director for Postgraduate Research and Director for Product Design Engineering at Brunel University London, will teach the second session, helping attendees build their understanding of the digital thread.

“By the end of both sessions you will:

  • Understand the main objectives and fundamental concepts of design for additive manufacturing

  • Know more about the AM design approach, including software tools like CAD and topology optimization

  • Understand key design rules and know how to apply design considerations for unique features

  • Understand how to utilize and maximize existing standards to improve AM designs and how these design concepts can be used for different applications

  • Understand more about the important ISO/ASTM International AM standards and available design guides

  • Know more about available resources for designing parts for the COVID-19 pandemic”

Each session costs $49, or you can register for both sessions for $75 and receive a bundle discount.

Virtual Game Day by America Makes and Wohlers

Partnering with Wohlers Associates, Ohio-based America Makes has announced that the second Virtual Game Day Series Event will be held on Thursday, June 18th, from 12-2:30 PM ET. The interactive event will feature a panel, moderated by Terry Wohlers, where the aim will be to talk about how additive manufacturing addresses distributed manufacturing and gaps in the supply chain. The panelists, each covering a different part of the supply chain, will be Mike Shannon, HP’s Senior Strategic Plastics Sourcing Program Manager; Cullen Hilkene, the CEO and Founder of 3Diligent; and Lou Rassey, the CEO of Fast Radius. Participants will be able to network directly with industry leaders, peers, and the panelists, and members of America Makes can also sponsor a “virtual table” for free.

“We’ve seen over the last several months the enormous impact AM can have on filling critical supply chain gaps. We’re excited about the future of AM and the role it will continue to play in this space. As companies begin to look at how to be prepared for the future, conversations like these are critical to have,” said America Makes Executive Director John Wilczynski.
