3D Printing News Briefs, July 10, 2020: VELO3D, Asiga, Henkel, Dyndrite

We’re sharing materials and business news with you in today’s 3D Printing News Briefs. First off, VELO3D has qualified the Hastelloy X material for use with its Sapphire 3D printer, and Asiga is leveraging Henkel’s Open Materials platform, Finally, Dyndrite has named an additive manufacturing industry veteran as its Vice President of Business Development.

VELO3D Qualifies Hastelloy X for Sapphire 3D Printer

Unicore of a 20-kilowatt microturbine engine, being developed by Sierra Turbines, that was 3D printed on a VELO3D Sapphire metal AM system.

California company VELO3D has qualified the nickel-based Hastelloy X material for use with its Sapphire metal 3D printer, joining Titaniuim64, Aluminum F357, and INCONEL alloy 718. The alloy is resistant to oxidation and corrosion cracking, well-suited for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) printing, and, because of its high temperature strength, is used frequently to make parts for gas turbine engines in combustion-zone components. In fact, air mobility and power generation company Sierra Turbines worked with the company recently to fabricate a 20-kilowatt microturbine engine prototype, featuring a unicore 3D printed with Hastelloy X.

“Power generation applications such as industrial gas turbines are a key focus for VELO3D so it is important that we qualify the right materials to serve that market. We will continue to add more of these types of compatible materials that enable customers to print parts they couldn’t before, yet with even better material properties than those produced by traditional manufacturing,” said VELO3D CEO and founder Benny Buller.

Asiga Joins Henkel’s Open Materials Platform

3D printing equipment manufacturer Asiga is collaborating with Henkel, and leveraging its Open Materials Platform in order to expand additive manufacturing opportunities for functional production-grade parts. Asiga’s 3D printer product line includes the MAX desktop series and the large-format PRO 4K, and the company has already validated several of Henkel’s Loctite materials for its systems, including Loctite 3D 3843 HDT60, Loctite 3D 3840, Loctite 3D 3820 Ultra Clear, and Loctite 3D 5015 A80 SI.

“Asiga’s commitment to provide our customers with a stable and consistent additive manufacturing solution for end-use functional parts is now delivered with optimized compatibility with Henkel materials. To supplement traditional manufacturing processes that require the kind of tough, functional and high temperature materials that are Henkel’s bread and butter,” stated Asiga’s Director of Global Operations Graham Turner. “We’re excited to tap into the Loctite portfolio and build solutions that exceed our customer’s expectations.”

Dyndrite Names Stephen Anderson VP of Business Development

Stephen Anderson

On to business, Seattle-based company Dyndrite announced that AM industry veteran Stephen Anderson has been appointed as its Vice President of Business Development. Anderson has more than 20 years of experience driving hardware and software requirements for the industry, and was most recently the AM Business Development Manager (USA) for Renishaw. In his new role, he will work with current and potential clients searching for a new AM software paradigm, hopefully to be found in Dyndrite’s core 3D geometry kernel.

“At Dyndrite we aim to get the best-of-the-best in the industry and Stephen is one of those. We’ve been excited about Stephen since our very first meeting at AMUG, over three years ago. There he challenged us to impress him – we’re happy to see we made the grade,” said Dyndrite’s CEO and founder Harshil Goel. “Having someone of Stephen’s caliber on the team means Dyndrite can be confident of its planned growth trajectory across the industry, as well as better serve our European and UK customers.”

Anderson’s appointment will also allow the company to open a new Dyndrite office in the UK that will serve European customers and markets.
