Rapid Prototyping vs 3D Printing vs Additive Manufacturing | New Topic for GATE Mechanical

In this video we will see the difference between rapid prototyping, 3D Printing and additive manufacturing.
Additive manufacturing is new and hot topic included in GATE mechanical syllabus recently announced by IIT Bombay for 2021.

Basically rapid prototyping is one of the many application under 3D printing or additive manufacturing. It is not meant for service application but used to produce prototypes at faster rates. It includes both material removal RP and material addition RP.

3D printing and additive manufacturing are synonyms. Both are layered based manufacturing process, uses 3D CAD model to produce object.
3D printing is common term used in media, general public which is customer focus and is of ornate nature.
while
Additive manufacturing is term used by professionals , industrial sectors for end use application. It is industrial and factional in nature.
